Science Center Space Lost for
Display of Planetarium Artifacts
April 24, 2008
To Whom It May
Concern:
My name is
Francis Graham, Assistant Professor of Physics at Kent State University, East Liverpool Regional
Campus. I reside at 417 Franklin
Street, East Pittsburgh,
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. I am a member of Friends
of the Zeiss, and I hope you will agree that, given the uncertain nature of the
continued storage and movement of the historic original Zeiss projector, and
the other city-owned old Buhl Planetarium artifacts, the most sensible solution
for their immediate preservation is their return to the original Buhl
Planetarium building, as recommended by Glenn Walsh. Any other alternative is
riskier given that the Carnegie
Science Center
has no plans, by the admission of Dr David Hillenbrand, the director, at this
time to properly curate these historical and irreplaceable items.
If the City does not wish to lose part of its history, Mr. Glenn
Walsh's suggestion is clearly the least risky and most sensible.
